Our Own Roots

Our Vision

The Prairie Roots Food Cooperative is dedicated to building a healthy community by providing access to natural, organic, and locally produced food.

Our Goal

Prairie Roots Food Cooperative will be a member-owned and operated natural foods cooperative whose purpose is to establish and operate a full-service, retail grocery store in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

As a co-op we abide by the Seven Cooperative principles and seek to provide education opportunities to members of our community and supporting producers who utilize sustainable and socially responsible production methods.

What’s a co-op?

A member-owned and member-controlled business that operates for the mutual benefit of all members. Cooperatives around the world look to seven internationally recognized principles to guide them. These are:

¨ Voluntary and open membership

¨ Democratic member control

¨ Member economic participation

¨ Autonomy and independence

¨ Education, training and information

¨ Cooperation among cooperatives

¨ Concern for community

By adhering to these principles, we stay connected to our member-owners, to our community, and to the global cooperative movement.
